A New Framework for Intellectual Property

The intellectual property firm purrLabs, Inc. has announced a strategic partnership with District.xyz, a launchpad for internet-native projects. The collaboration aims to build out a new category called IP Capital Markets (IPCM) on Base, the Layer 2 network developed by Coinbase. This initiative focuses on creating new ways to fund, distribute, and experience intellectual property through tokenization.

The core concept, driven by purrLabs, presents IPCM as a specialized segment of the growing Internet Capital Markets (ICM) ecosystem. The goal is to transform creative assets—from characters and stories to entire fictional worlds—into tokenized markets. This model allows fans and investors to participate directly in the growth and ownership of IP.

Combining IP Creation with Launchpad Infrastructure

Under the partnership, each company will contribute its specific expertise. purrLabs, which began as Coinbase’s first official IP licensee, specializes in developing intellectual property and integrating it across physical and digital platforms. The firm merges products like smart toys and collectibles with interactive online content and token-based rewards to build brand equity.

District.xyz provides the technical and financial infrastructure for new projects to launch and scale on Base. Backed by prominent investors including a16z, Alliance, and Initialized Capital, District offers a platform for creators to move from an idea to a fully functioning onchain project. Michael Ma, CEO of District.xyz, noted that the partnership will help creators launch tokenized IP at internet speed.

A key example of purrLabs’ model is its flagship character, Mr. Miggles. The character is being developed as a case study for how an IP can evolve from a mascot into a community-centered capital market. As part of its licensing agreement with Coinbase, purrLabs has also established the Miggles Creator Fund to support other creators using this model.

Future Plans and Ecosystem Growth

The collaboration will include joint educational programs, technical support, and community initiatives designed to grow the IPCM category on Base. purrLabs will also work with The Agency, a decentralized creative firm associated with District, to help projects scale their onchain presence.

Kousuke Tominaga, CEO of purrLabs, Inc., explained that the company provides creators with the tools for immediate activation, distribution, and tokenization, significantly shortening the time it takes to develop new IP. By combining purrLabs’ culture-building approach with District’s launchpad capabilities, the partnership intends to establish a new standard for how creators can build sustainable, self-owned financial models around their work.
