A new collaboration between LazAI, ZKM, Metis, and GOAT Network is set to build GMPayer, the first cross-chain payment hub designed for a decentralized artificial intelligence economy. The platform will allow AI agents to make direct, trustless payments across multiple blockchains and currencies without needing intermediaries or human supervision.

GMPayer is built on the x402 standard, a protocol that enables autonomous financial transactions between AI entities. The concept gives a modern, real-world purpose to the long-unused 402 “Payment Required” HTTP status code, transforming it into a gateway for decentralized payments.

The broader initiative for a universal web-native crypto payment protocol gained momentum with the planned launch of the x402 Foundation in September 2025 by Coinbase and Cloudflare, with support from tech leaders like Google, Visa, and AWS. GMPayer aims to be the first major implementation of this standard, creating a verifiable way for machines to transfer value autonomously.

How x402 Unlocks Machine-to-Machine Commerce

For over three decades, the 402 status code remained a placeholder. The x402 protocol now turns it into a functional payment gateway for machines. In a world where autonomous AI agents need to purchase data, rent computing power, and sell services, the absence of a direct payment channel has been a significant barrier. The x402 standard provides this channel, embedding proof, policy, and rights directly into each transaction.

This protocol ensures that all transfers include cryptographic proof of their authenticity, purpose, and ownership. The result is a smart monetary layer capable of processing a massive volume of microtransactions without relying on a centralized system.

The Role of the GMPayer Alliance

GMPayer combines the expertise of four distinct ecosystems. LazAI contributes its Data Anchoring Token (DAT) model, while ZKM provides the essential zero-knowledge proof infrastructure for privacy and security.

Metis serves as the settlement and execution layer, processing transactions on its Andromeda network. Finally, the Bitcoin-native rollup GOAT Network connects stablecoins and Bitcoin liquidity through its zkRollup infrastructure, enabling seamless cross-chain transfers.

A Four-Phase Vision for the AI Economy

The development of GMPayer is planned in four strategic phases. The initial stage will focus on implementing the multi-currency x402 payment hub, allowing AI agents to independently buy data and computing resources. The second phase will introduce user controls, empowering humans to set spending authorities and budget constraints for their AI assistants.

Phase three envisions a full-scale AI business network where every service call becomes a transaction, turning AI tools into revenue-generating assets. The final phase aims to establish a standardized AI value-exchange layer, making it simple for any blockchain to integrate AI at the application level.

$BANG Token Powers the Proof of Concept

To demonstrate GMPayer’s real-time capabilities, the team is introducing $BANG, a proof-of-concept token deployed on both the Metis Andromeda and GOAT networks. The token has a total supply of 1 billion, with 500 million available on each chain.

Users can participate by sending a small payment of 1 $xMETIS or 1 xGOATED using an x402 payment request, which rewards them with 5,000 $BANG tokens. The minting event will be open for a 72-hour window starting on November 3, 2025. While the $BANG token itself has no planned utility, it will serve as a live demonstration of how the x402 protocol can scale to support verifiable, cross-chain micropayments.
