Former Torrent Site TorrentGalaxy Resurfaces as a Solana Memecoin Page
TorrentGalaxy, once a major destination for millions of torrent users, has made an unexpected return. After a mysterious shutdown months ago, the site’s primary domain is active again—but not as a file-sharing hub. Instead, it now serves as a promotional page for an obscure memecoin, marking a strange final chapter for the once-popular platform.
An Unexplained Shutdown
Launched by former staff from the defunct ExtraTorrent, TorrentGalaxy quickly grew into one of the most reliable torrent sites on the web. However, its stability faltered after the original founders sold the site to an undisclosed party in mid-2024. The new ownership was immediately marked by frequent and prolonged periods of downtime.
The situation worsened in early 2025. In January, the new operators claimed to be in financial trouble and asked users for donations to cover server costs. By late February, the site was completely unreachable, and in March, its popular automated upload bots ceased to function. The shutdown was abrupt, with no official farewell message, leaving both its users and its own staff in the dark about the true cause.
An Unlikely Rebirth
The recent reactivation of the torrentgalaxy.to domain brought a surprising twist to the story. The site no longer lists any torrents and has been repurposed to promote a memecoin named $1, which operates on the Solana network. It remains unclear whether the site’s previous owners are behind this new venture or if the domain has changed hands yet again.
This new page has no connection to the original TorrentGalaxy community or its purpose. An inspection of its code reveals it was built using a standard template for launching memecoin projects, and many of its links are currently non-functional placeholders. While this comeback is a strange one, it strongly suggests that the TorrentGalaxy torrent site has been permanently abandoned, closing the book on a significant era in the file-sharing world.
