EigenCloud and SharpLink Partner for $200 Million Ethereum Restaking Initiative
EigenCloud has announced a major Ethereum restaking collaboration with SharpLink Gaming, a company listed on the Nasdaq exchange. The partnership will see SharpLink deploy up to $200 million in Ethereum on the Linea Layer 2 network, with support from industry leaders EtherFi and Anchorage Digital.
A Strategic On-Chain Deployment
The initiative will utilize EigenCloud’s infrastructure to perform the restaking, a process that applies additional validation rules to already staked assets to boost both security and yield. This move marks a significant step in SharpLink’s Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) strategy, which aims to transition the company from simply holding assets to running a fully operational on-chain model.
Through this collaboration, SharpLink plans to expand its on-chain activities under an institutional-grade custody and risk management framework. The goal is to fully leverage its digital assets through sophisticated strategies like restaking rather than passive holding.
The Technology Behind the Partnership
EigenCloud is a cloud service built upon EigenLayer, a technology developed by Eigen Labs. The EigenLayer protocol allows staked Ethereum to be used as collateral for Actively Validated Services (AVS). This system automates validation and rewards for services that follow protocol rules while penalizing violations through a process known as slashing, where collateral is forfeited.
Sreeram Kannan, CEO of Eigen Labs, commented on the development, highlighting a broader shift in the ecosystem. He noted that Ethereum is evolving into a protocol-centric model that reduces dependency on third parties, expanding into financial infrastructure and even verifiable AI applications. Kannan emphasized that SharpLink’s participation signals a new trend of institutional capital merging with trustworthy on-chain infrastructure.
