Malaysia’s Digital Ministry Develops National Blockchain Policy
Focus on Government Efficiency and Asset Tokenization
Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital is creating a national policy to guide the development of blockchain technology across the country. According to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, the initiative will focus on key components aimed at improving public and private sector operations.
One primary goal is to adopt blockchain to enhance the efficiency, security, and transparency of government administration and industry. The ministry is also studying the application of tokenization, particularly in asset management and capital market development, to secure transactions and stabilize the digital ecosystem.
Speaking at the Dewan Rakyat, the minister confirmed that the government is working on an integrated regulatory framework for asset tokenization through the Securities Commission Malaysia and Bank Negara Malaysia.
National Task Force to Guide Policy
To ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach, the ministry has established a National Blockchain Policy Task Force. This group brings together experts and experienced individuals from both the public and private sectors to align on a unified direction for the nation’s blockchain strategy.
Preparing the Workforce for a Blockchain Future
A significant part of the national policy involves preparing the local workforce for the demands of the blockchain industry. The minister outlined a “whole-of-nation” strategy that combines close collaboration between the government, industry, and academic institutions.
Key strategies under consideration include empowering higher education institutions, strengthening industry matchmaking for a ready workforce, and increasing professionalism to enhance global mobility. The policy will emphasize inclusive education and training programs based directly on industry needs while also working to attract global talent.
