Moon Inc. Secures $8.8M to Launch Bitcoin Prepaid Cards in Asia
Moon Inc., a company specializing in prepaid connectivity, has raised approximately $8.8 million to introduce a Bitcoin prepaid card in Thailand and South Korea, marking the first step in a planned expansion across Asia. The Hong Kong-listed firm confirmed the successful HK$65.5 million fundraising was supported by a consortium of Bitcoin miners and investors through the issuance of new shares and convertible notes.
The new product is designed to simplify the process of using Bitcoin. The cards will allow users to acquire, store, and transfer the digital currency without the complexities of managing a traditional crypto wallet, blending the company’s telecom expertise with digital asset functionality.
John Riggins, CEO of Moon Inc., called the fundraising a critical milestone. “We are grateful for the confidence our new and existing investors have shown in our long-term vision,” he stated.
Bridging Traditional Finance with the Bitcoin Economy
According to Riggins, the initiative represents more than just a new product; it’s a strategic move to connect traditional capital markets with the growing Bitcoin economy. He highlighted the raise as “a vote of confidence in Hong Kong’s role as a gateway for regulated digital-asset innovation.” The company plans to leverage its established wholesale telecom distribution networks to deploy the cards.
This development follows a series of strategic moves for Moon Inc. In March, it became the first publicly traded company in Greater China to adopt a Bitcoin treasury strategy, integrating the asset into its balance sheet and retail model. That decision came after a majority acquisition by Sora Ventures and UTXO Management earlier this year, which accelerated the company’s digital asset initiatives.
Looking ahead, Moon Inc. is also evaluating Taiwan, Japan, and Vietnam for future market entry. The company’s recent efforts were recognized by Capital Magazine, which named it one of Hong Kong’s 10 most innovative companies. “We’re honored to be recognized for driving Bitcoin adoption in Asia,” Riggins said.
